Artificial intelligence (AI) is technology that should be enable to learn, read, write, create and analyze almost anything. 

Some tasks that AI could include is reasoning, learning, problem-solving, perception, language understanding, and decision-making.

Now AI is based on the principle of simulating human thought processes and behaviors using computer systems. In some cases AI already went on it’s own path which has to be checked and investigate before it goes wrong way.

Field of AI can be great asset for all humans but we need to understand that it can be also tool for many bad things. Future will be interesting.

Types of Artificial Intelligence

There are several types of Artificial Intelligence. Let us check some of them:

Reactive Machines AI  –  Limited Memory AI  –  Theory of Mind AI  –  Self-aware AI:  (Artificial Narrow Intelligence (ANI)  –  Artificial General Intelligence (AGI)  –  Artificial Superintelligence (ASI))

Reactive Machines AI

Reactive machines are the oldest forms of AI systems that have extremely limited capability.

These AI systems have no memory, so do not have the capability to use past experiences to inform future decisions. That is why they are/were used for only specific tasks. Because this type of system does not “learn”, it can only be used for automatically responding to very limited combinations of inputs. 

This type of AI is great solution for a lot of different fields. We have to know that this type AI was the one that beat chess Grandmaster Garry Kasparov in 1997.

 

Limited Memory AI

Limited memory AI machines are advanced version of reactive machines and they can learn from the past and monitor specific objects or situations over time. These means that these observations are programmed into the AI which means these AI systems are also capable of learning from historical data to make decisions.

Nearly all existing AI systems like chatbots and virtual assistants, self-driving cars are Limited memory AI.

Deep learning means that systems are trained by large volumes of data that they store in datacentre for a reference model for solving future problems. If we take  image recognition than AI is trained using thousands of pictures that someone had to label to teach it – someone had to name objects it scans. When an image is scanned by such an AI, it uses the training images as references to understand the contents of the image presented to it, and based on its “learning experience” it labels new images with increasing accuracy.

Theory of Mind AI

While the previous two types of AI have been and are found in abundance, the next two types of AI exist, for now, either as a concept or a work in progress. Theory of mind AI is the next level of AI systems that researchers are currently engaged in innovating. A theory of mind level AI will be able to better understand the entities it is interacting with by discerning their needs, emotions, beliefs, and thought processes. While artificial emotional intelligence is already a budding industry and an area of interest for leading AI researchers, achieving Theory of mind level of AI will require development in other branches of AI as well. This is because to truly understand human needs, AI machines will have to perceive humans as individuals whose minds can be shaped by multiple factors, essentially “understanding” humans.

Self Aware AI

Self-aware AI is the final stage of AI. Some say it only hypothetically, some already think it happened. Name of this type is self explanatorily: It is an AI that has evolved so much that it has developed self-awareness. What could be this type of AI capable is we think beyond our understanding. The Self aware AI would be capable of having ideas like self-preservation or it could calculated that humans are going in wrong direction  (like that we are too agresive to nature, other animals,…) which may directly or indirectly come to the end for humanity, since this AI will be much more capable than people combine.

This type of AI is also  classified and more generally used in tech world as the Artificial Narrow Intelligence (ANI), Artificial General Intelligence (AGI), and Artificial Superintelligence (ASI).
